Tried the Aperture 'File-->Locate Referenced Files' and it too says 'the selection doesn't have any referenced files' so it appears the Masters are gonzo. The Masters folder is organized by the the date the files have been imported, not by capture date. The originals might be filed away at a date that you do not expect.
Many of my photos that I took in 2003 appear in the 2012 folder, when I last upgraded the libray. If the originals still are somewhere in the iPhoto Library, rebuilding the library will collect all 'Lost&found' originals in 'Recovered Projects' folder. Have you used other programs that access the iPhoto library, like Picasa? If your masters really should be gone, open your iPhoto library in Aperture and drag all thumbnails with missing originals to a folder on your Desktop.
